While 304 stainless steel is a popular and versatile material for many applications, it may not be the best choice for marine applications where the metal will be exposed to saltwater, humidity, and other corrosive elements.
304 stainless steel has good corrosion resistance in mild environments, but it is susceptible to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater or salt spray environments. Marine environments can be highly corrosive due to the high salt content, which can cause accelerated corrosion of stainless steel.
For marine applications, it is recommended to use a grade of stainless steel that has higher corrosion resistance, such as 316 stainless steel. 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which provides enhanced corrosion resistance in saltwater and other corrosive environments.

Factors that can affect the corrosion resistance of 304 stainless steel include exposure to corrosive substances, high temperatures, mechanical stress, and environmental factors such as humidity and saltwater. If the 304 stainless steel sheet is exposed to corrosive substances or harsh environmental conditions, it may be more susceptible to rusting and corrosion.
