#28 mild steel woven mesh with a 0.552mm aperture and 0.355mm wire. With 37% open area and solid weight, it’s perfect for tough screening and filtration jobs. Durable and tightly woven, this mesh is ideal for protecting machinery, sieving fine material, or adding structural support to filter systems.
Our #28 woven wire mesh, made from plain mild steel, features a fine 0.552mm aperture and a 0.355mm wire diameter, offering a durable and tightly woven structure suited to precision filtration and protective screening. With a 37% open area and a weight of 1.76 kg per square metre, this mesh combines strength, density, and reliability in one material. The #28 mesh count delivers 28 holes per linear inch, resulting in a coarse-grade filtration mesh that is ideal for capturing small particles without compromising on rigidity or lifespan.
Thanks to the use of thicker wire for such a fine aperture, this mesh offers excellent structural support while maintaining a relatively small open space. It is a popular choice in mechanical sieving systems, dust protection panels, and fine particle screening equipment. The mild steel construction provides a cost-effective option for installations that don’t require built-in corrosion resistance, or for applications where the mesh will be painted, coated, or galvanised after fitting.
This mesh is regularly used in industrial workshops, agriculture, mining, and fabrication environments. It performs especially well in conditions where abrasion resistance, dimensional stability, and strength under load are needed. The reduced open area makes it effective at blocking fine debris while still allowing enough air or liquid to pass through, which makes it ideal for use in air handling units, bulk material sieves, or protection for vents and delicate machinery.
Its moderate weight and solid construction make it easy to cut and shape with appropriate tools, though a little more rigid than lighter meshes. Once installed, it holds its form under pressure and is suited to high-impact or repeat-use environments. It’s also useful as a backing mesh or support layer in multi-stage screening or filtration systems.
Wire mesh materials are also available in brass, copper, galvanised steel and blue PVC.
