#16 mild steel mesh with 1.31mm aperture and 0.28mm wire diameter. With 68% open area and lightweight build, it’s perfect for screens, vents, and fine sieving tasks. Easy to cut and work with, this mesh suits light industrial, workshop, and creative applications.
Our #16 woven wire mesh, crafted from plain mild steel, features a 1.31mm aperture and a fine 0.28mm wire diameter, offering a lightweight yet functional mesh for screening, ventilation, and protective applications. With a high 68% open area and a low weight of just 0.63 kg per square metre, this mesh is ideal for projects where maximum airflow, visibility, or drainage are important, but some structural stability is still required. The 16 holes per inch mesh count provides reliable coverage, making it well-suited to fine sieving, insect screening, or air and light passage applications.
The mild steel material gives this mesh strength and flexibility at an affordable price point. It is particularly suitable for indoor or dry environments, or where it will be painted, powder coated, or otherwise protected after installation. The fine wire diameter ensures that it is easy to shape, cut, and work with, while still offering enough strength to function as a protective layer or support structure.
This mesh is commonly used in ventilation covers, protective panels, agricultural enclosures, light filtering systems, and even in arts and crafts projects. It can be mounted to timber or metal frames, formed into cylinders or cones for filtration use, or used as a backing mesh behind primary screens or barriers. In fabrication shops and workshops, it’s a go-to material when a fine but open mesh is needed for sieving, sorting, or low-impact shielding.
Thanks to its flexible and workable construction, it’s also useful for creating partitions, display panels, and cages for small animals or tools. It blends strength with a fine weave, making it suitable for tasks that don’t require heavy-duty load bearing but still need durability and resilience.
Wire mesh materials are also available in brass, copper, galvanised steel and blue PVC.
